OUR EXHIBITIONS

Numerous exhibitions have been organized by Kalaguthi since its inception. the following are some of the major exhibitions worthy of note:

1977: Graphic Art and Macram Exhibition with demonstration was organized for three weeks at the Nepal-Bharat Sanskritik Kendra in Kathmandu. For the macram exhibition we obtained two trucks-full of plants from the Government Botanical Garden. This exhibition received very good press coverage in the local journals. During the exhibition we taught macram to nearly 200 visitors.

1980: A photographic exhibition was organized in Edmonton, Canada with photographs of Nepal and India. This exhibition was titled, "Art, Architect, and the Weaver and Potters of Nepal".

1983-84: During the period March 1983 and March 1984, we organized training program at Bhriguti Mandap in memory of late Tulsi Mehar Srestha, a noted Gandhian social worker who dedicated his entire life to uplift the underprivileged people of Nepal. During this training 65 people participate in instructing about 4,000 women. This was indeed a special program, in which the designs we developed on the sweaters depicted the mountains of Nepal. The yarn that was used was  hand-spun thick wool and natural-and-chemical dyed.

Based on the products made by these trainees, we organized an exhibition-cum-workshop for a month and half at the Nepal-Bharat Sanskritik Kendra. This exhibition was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of Nepal. Mr. Matrika Prasad Koirala. Approximately 15,000 people visited this exhibition. In the evening many classical musicians performed at the exhibition. The display work was done by many fine artists of Nepal.

Media coverage included 18 journal articles, including an editorial in Gorkha Patra, the primary newspaper of the Government of Nepal.
